7th May to the 19th May

Observations +

Lorry Cudmore, Ruth McCabe, and Malcolm Cudmore ….bring ceramics, collage and paintings to the upstairs gallery at Southwold’s ‘CraftCo’ for just 2 weeks in May: 7th to the 19th.

Craftco is a gallery for contemporary crafts and applied arts from makers in East Anglia which now welcomes selected 2D artists into its gallery space. It is situated on Southwold High street near Adnams main outlet.

‘Observations +’ takes Southwold’s characterful ‘Blackshore’ as inspiration, offering the artists’ personal reflections on this much loved centre for the local fishing and boat building industries.

Ruth has selected a range of new pieces in collage and acrylic inspired by dark, stormy winter days but also responding to the brilliant colours and shapes always to be found around boats.

Ruth’s first solo exhibition of 2026 will be held in ’The Canteen’, a community café nestled away from Southwold’s bustling high-street, and within the Old Hospital Hub. The Old Hospital has become the community heart of Southwold and is also home to Southwold Library, the Geography Fieldwork Academy and in the near future, a community gym. The hub’s ever-expanding community projects support hundreds of local people. The Canteen has been a second home for Ruth over the last 2 years.

As an all year round sea swimmer, (member of Sole Bay Swimmers), and with a love for the beautifully un-glamorous ‘Blackshore’ (Southwold Harbour), she presents 14 pieces expressing her love for this great seaside town, and concerns for the increasing coastal erosion on this eastern edge of the UK.

Work is for sale in the show: payment by Paypal or BACS.
Postcards and Photobooks will also be on sale.
The Canteen menu is of delicious quality, house-made and locally-sourced food and speciality coffee.
