SPRING SURGE. Oil on canvas 50x50cm

The winter that will not end. Land that has seemed forever trapped in a cold so deep and long lasting. And then the spring came. Suddenly pushing through with its relief of new leaves and welcome light. This highly textured painting is cut into with a palette knife indicating the way it seemed to me that Spring forces had to fight their way out of the deadening cold. The River Blyth Valley was still gripped in frozen flood waters, but Spring would win its battle and revive us all.
