High and dry. Currently at Buckenham Galleries, Southwold.

This small impasto oil inspired by Aldeburgh beach on the Suffolk coast, is worked on a very interesting new substrate. Made by Two Rivers Paper Mill, watercolour board is unique in being 100% cotton rag, acid free and gelatine sized for watercolour or oils. It is air-dried and between 600 and 750lb weight. It copes beautifully with what is a great depth of oil applied freely and thickly with palette knife. The impasto works for me in relation to the beach subject since it gives a sense of the shifting and indented shingle our Suffolk beaches so often have, and which the sea makes roar in rough weather.
