Welcome to Ruth McCabe Contemporary Art

Living in Suffolk, a few miles from the North Sea, where The River Blyth broadens out into its light-filled estuary of wide salt marsh and mudflats, my work picks up the colours, forms and changing seasonal moods of East Anglia's coastal and agricultural landscapes.

Deeply respectful of the checks and balances built into the natural world, and granddaughter of a Yorkshire farmer and horse breeder, I love the landscape and the animals it supports: the fluid Brown Hare, rounded sheep, cheeky pigs and the beautiful craggy weight of cows. My work often returns to these subjects for the sheer pleasure of painting their line, form and movement.

I work in oils, watercolour and acrylic, preferring to make marks expressive of my response to the subject, rather than descriptive of its exact form. All work on the site is original (not prints) unless otherwise stated.
